jessica KNOWS she’s spent too much time on this case. she KNOWS that it’s unhealthy to keep lingering on it. but she can’t seem to tear herself away. she’s been at it for DAYS now, getting a minimal amount of sleep and accidentally forgetting meals so that she can keep working. she’s EXHAUSTED, but she can’t stop. when diana speaks, she doesn’t even bother to look up from her laptop. at first, the words don’t even REGISTER. but then, as if on some sort of CUE, her laptop dies. a spew of CURSES fall from her lips and she shoves it away from her. slender fingers pinch the bridge of her nose, and she exhales deeply. ❝ i’ve got to keep working. ❞ is the only response she offers before pushing herself to her feet to go look for the laptop’s charger.
